Attention hipsters: Gucci Mane’s latest is on that Justice tip, and we ain’t talking about his freedom from incarceration.
Check out the latest from recently-sprung ATL hip hop mogul, Gucci Mane, which features a sample from the intro of “Phantoms Part II” by French electro-house pioneers Justice. Beatmaker Swizz Beatz brings the fire on “It’s Gucci Time”. The strange out-of-sync placement of the Justice sample against the slow and heavy hip hop beat brings out a new character in the synth line, something that is both jarring and hypnotizing at the same time. Gucci slays the track on the mic as usual, showing off his ridiculous versatility, able to adapt his gravelly drawl to any beat, any shape or size. On “It’s Gucci Time” his drawl is more of a controlled slur, letting his phrases slide over the beat in cadences as slippery as the electro sample rolling under it.
