It’s been a year and a half since the Brooklyn beach-fuzz pioneers Vivian Girls released their sophomore LP, 2009’s Everything Goes Wrong, but it feels like they haven’t been gone so long. Maybe because while they were keeping relatively quiet in the past year, the surfy garage pop movement the Girls had helped revive became omnipresent in the indie scene. 2010 was also a big year for alumni of the Vivian Girls, with former drummer Ali Koehler joining Best Coast, and former bassist Frankie Rose releasing the excellent, critically-praised debut LP of her new band, Frankie Rose & The Outs. Now Vivian Girls are gearing up to release their third full-length effort, Share The Joy, due out this April, and they’ve released their first video for the record’s first single – “I Heard You Say”. The song itself shows the former lo-fi act continuing to clean up and tighten their sound, but even without the feedback wash, the trio maintains their signature bad-ass bored-girl aesthetic with beautiful vocal harmonies, reverb-laden guitars, and dragging drums. Fans will not be disappointed. It’s a great video, featuring a lot of interesting texture and pattern assemblages and dichotomies, alternating between scenes standing in the snow in fur coats, and sitting on the floral-patterned bedspread of a motel room that evokes Appalachia. It’s also worth noting these girls are getting cuter and cuter. Check out the clip below.Vodpod videos no longer available.
